Madison’s Bishop Donald Hying tweeted about his visit with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Baltimore, commenting on their faithful sacrifice.
"Being with 700 members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for their national conference in Baltimore was inspiring, formative, and remarkable,” Hying said in his message.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization that serves the poor and suffering.
He praised the members for their bravery to adhere to those in need.
During Hying’s visit, he witnessed some of the work the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Baltimore does in caring for the poor, sick and deprived. The group’s website says members pride themselves on the "home visit,” which often involves meeting and caring for those in need at their homes.
The Society uses disaster relief services, thrift stores, good pantries, housing programs, prison re-entry programs, medical services and other methods to help with the long-term goal of helping people flourish in society, the group’s website says. Its stated mission is to maintain “a network of friends, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.”
Hying praised the Vincentians, another name for members of the Society, for serving the less fortunate and he calls Catholics to join them in their cause. “Serving the poor and suffering from a deep Catholic spirituality, Vincentians are heroic in their witness to Christ! Come join them!" he said on Twitter.
