In 2021, Mount Mary University will begin offering a four-year nursing degree for women, with all coursework fully on campus.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is intended to compliment other programs already offered, according to a post on the university’s website. Currently students can take Nursing 1-2-1 – a course offered in partnership with Milwaukee Area, Moraine Park and Waukesha County technical colleges – as well as a Registered Nurse (RN) to BSN online program that is open to both women and men.
“For some students, four years at Mount Mary in our small class environment where they are thriving is a really attractive option,” Kara Groom, Ph.D., chief nurse administrator, said in the post. “For others, a Nursing 1-2-1 Program enables them to work as an RN at the end of their junior year so they enter the profession earlier.”
The post also notes that there is currently an urgent need for nurses with a BSN in Wisconsin, which is currently approximately half way to the goal set by the Institute of Medicine.
