Cardinal Stritch University alumnus Michael Edwards, a 2020 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, has gone on to serve the nation’s veterans in the Milwaukee Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Edwards, himself a U.S. Navy veteran, spent five years in the military prior to enrolling at Stritch, according to a post on the university’s website

"I actually visited campus after I had been admitted," Edwards said in the post. "My visit affirmed my choice that Stritch was the place for me. I had the opportunity to learn how nurses work in different environments, and I was able to apply my Navy experience to my clinicals."

Edwards said that he carries on the values he learned at Stritch in his everyday work as a nurse, as it helped him to understand the importance of spiritual care for patients and their families, according to the post.

In addition, with the help of Heroes for Healthcare, Edwards zeroed in on his calling, according to the post.

"The Heroes for Healthcare staff was very friendly and helpful," Edwards said in the post. "Many positions require you to have passed the NCLEX before you can even apply. Being able to focus on the test preparation instead of how I was going to pay for the test was a big relief. I am so appreciative of their support."
