Former Green Bay Packer Brett Favre has publicly announced his endorsement of President Donald Trump, a report from The Hill said.
Favre tweeted, “My vote is for what makes this country great, freedom of speech & religion, 2nd [Amendment], hardworking tax-paying citizens, police & military. In this election, we have freedom of choice, which all should respect. For me & these principles, my Vote is for @RealDonaldTrump."
Favre is one of several notable sports figures who chose to endorse Trump.
Other supporters of the president include former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, golfer Jack Nicklaus, UFC Commissioner Dana White, former NFL player Herschel Walker, former NFL coach Mike Ditka, former MLB All-Stars Johnny Damon and Curt Schilling.
Favre, a Catholic, has faced a number of trials in his life and has always been transparent of the role of his faith for himself and his family, Aleteia reported. His wife became pregnant before the couple was married and their faith is what gave them the courage to carry the pregnancy to term and become married in 1996.
Favre was dealt a great blow, however, when his father died just before playing against the Oakland Raiders. While Favre was still deeply mourning the passing of his father at the time of the game, he was able to push through and bring great honor to the legacy of his father by throwing for four touchdowns.
Less than a year later, Favre’s brother-in-law was killed in an accident. Shortly after, his wife Deanna, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Deanna, a strong Catholic, was able to overcome her struggle with cancer after only four months of chemotherapy treatment.
The Favres' are well known for their devout faith and their devotion to God. It is doubtless that their faith provided them the strength to thrive despite challenging times.
