Tim Abler, Cardinal Stritch University visual arts professor, has been honored with the Jan Hader Award in the Wisconsin Photography 2020 competition.
This biennial competition has been organized since 1979 and introduces museum visitors to a variety of photographic media and artists' viewpoints. This year, 1,040 entries were submitted by 104 artists. The jurored show features 83 pieces by 29 Wisconsin artists and is on display at the Racine Art Museum's Wustum Museum of Fine Arts through Saturday, Nov. 28.
His digital inkjet print "Embrace, Oaxaca, Mexico 2019" has been purchased for the museum's permanent collection.
Abler has taught at Cardinal Stritch University since 1981. He is currently chair of the Visual Arts Department and teaches courses in photography and filmmaking. His work reflects his observations of life in various communities. Abler holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Milwaukee Institute of Art Design and a master of fine arts degree in photography from Columbia College in Chicago.
