Students attending the Holy Family Parish School in Whitefish will be returning to in-person learning this fall, but the school also has contingency plans in place.
“We will be returning to in-person school, while having a detailed plan for remote learning or a hybrid version,” Holy Family Parish School Principal Amy Kern told the Wisconsin Catholic Tribune. “Reactions are mixed but, overall, families want to return to in-person school.”
Classes will be starting a bit later in the school year, however. Students are not set to return to learning until Tuesday, Sept. 1, according to Kern.

According to the school’s website, the current plan calls for in-person education on a five-day-per-week schedule. Kern said the school has also made provisions for students and staff safety in the face of ongoing health concerns related to COVID-19.
In addition to mask requirements for all staff, students in grades 5 through 8 will also be required to wear masks while at the school. The school has also upgraded all of its faucets to operate hands-free.
The school has also secured a reliable supply of hand sanitizer.
“We have a contract with the hand-sanitizer company that supplies all of Aurora and will have hand sanitizer in each classroom and throughout the building,” Kern said.
As an added safety measure, Holy Family has purchased and installed desk guards for the school’s offices, the food service area and even for the student’s desks. Visitors will not be permitted in the building, and efforts to minimize the potential of exposure to infection will also include staggered lunch and recess times for the entire school.
