Holy Trinity issued the following announcement.

Holy Week…for months I and many others would have been preparing things for our cluster and community to share in the Seder Meal.  I have attached some history, a booklet and some recipes if you would like to read and or prepare your own version of the Seder Meal while at home.

Many of the recipes are old and other people make them now, but I sorta like the old scribble recipes… ( and they were on my computer already!)…..they all work well, adjust for size and with what you have at home.

The Seder starts with readings, Lighting of the Festival Lights, Blessing of the Feast, wine/grape juice (no dairy items), a ceremonial plate for each person which has a green herb-parsley, matzo-unleavened bread,  a bitter herb (moror)-horseradish, haroses (a mixture of apples, nuts, cinnamon and wine), boiled egg-sign of new life and birth which are all eaten at the time stated in the booklet while following along with the readings.  We typically serve a meal of, relishes, chicken soup with matzo balls, roasted lamb, baked chicken, boiled potatoes with parsley, gravy, corn and a fresh/canned fruit cup for dessert. It ends with the Final Benediction and song.

Hope you enjoy the information.  Who knows maybe we will have more people willing to prepare the dining hall and food next year and many more will want to participate in The Seder Meal together when we can safely!?

Six Definitions of what a Seder is:

  • Seder is: The traditional Passover week dinner.
  • Seder is: The Passover dinner
  • Seder is: A bible Study in a family setting using all five senses to make the study an unforgettable event.
  • Seder is: That famous dinner called the Last Supper hosted by Jesus for his disciples
  • Seder is: The feast of Unleavened Bread
  • Seder is: The basis for the early Church’s Lord’s Day Worship service.
It is referred to as the Agape Feast and the Eucharist, Agape is the Greek word for love, Eucharist is the Greek Translation which means Give Thanks to God. The Agape Feast and the Eucharist were separated after 300 AD.
