Bishop Donald Hying of the Diocese of Madison recently expressed his gratitude on Twitter as the first anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade was observed.

In commemoration of this milestone, March for Life organized a rally, which was attended by Hying and hundreds of other participants.

“On this first anniversary of the Dobbs decision, we give thanks to God that thousands of children were born this past year who otherwise would have been aborted,” Hying said in his tweet. “We renew our commitment to support mothers with children, preborn and born, and to build a culture of life.”

Pro-choice protesters also attended the event, according to NBC 15

"Lots of prayer, love and commitment at the pro-life rally and march at the Capitol today in Madison to honor the first anniversary of the Dobbs decision," Hying wrote on Twitter. "We love children, mothers and families!”

On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered an unprecedented ruling in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. This ruling represented a significant shift from the landmark Roe v. Wade decision of 1973, which had legalized abortion across the U.S. The new ruling granted individual states the power to decide the legality of abortion within their own jurisdictions, according to the Guttmacher Institute

“June 24, 2023, marks the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, and we have much to celebrate,” Bishop Michael Burbidge, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, said, according to the USCCB website. “By the grace of God, the nearly 50-year reign of national abortion on demand has been put to an end. Roe v. Wade — a seemingly insurmountable blight on our nation — is no more!”

Hying also spoke about the matter in a YouTube video.

"We stand in solidarity with all of our preborn brothers and sisters, and we stand to build a culture of life where every human life will be received, welcomed, nourished and respected," Hying said in his video message. "We continue to seek to build that whole culture where mothers who find themselves in crisis pregnancy truly have the help they need to decide for life, and to continue to sustain the lives of their children after birth.”
