Bishop David Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay recently echoed Pope Francis' call for Catholics to dedicate their prayers and fasting during Lent to peace in Ukraine.

Bishop Ricken posted a message to Facebook, where he asked members of the community to pray for peace in the conflict.

“Pope Francis is asking all of us throughout the world to pray and to fast on Ash Wednesday for peace in Ukraine," Ricken said. "It's very, very important. I hope you can make this a priority for you for that day and for some days ahead. This is going to be a long haul. We pray for peace in Ukraine and we fast for that intention. God bless you.”

Pope Francis tweeted on Feb. 27, "I renew my invitation for everyone to take part on 2 March, Ash Wednesday, in a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace in #Ukraine, in order to be near to the suffering Ukrainian people, to be aware that we are all brothers and sisters, and to implore God for an end to the war."

Woman’s Day reports that Lent will conclude with the festivity of the Easter Vigil Mass on April 17.

Over 10,000 Ukrainians call Wisconsin home since 2016, with that number continuing to rise up to the present, according to WI Sports Heroics.
