Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee visited the site of the Waukesha Christmas parade attack where he led a prayer procession.

According to The New York Times, tragedy struck the city’s 58th annual Christmas parade when a vehicle rammed through the event, killing six people and injuring dozens of others.

The Most Rev. Listecki met with a group of Catholic Community of Waukesha priests and parishioners in what the archdiocese’s Facebook page said was an effort to “provide spiritual support and assist the Waukesha community with healing.”

Together, the archbishop and the Waukesha faithful, including those who have been affected by the attack, walked from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church along Main Street.

“Archbishop Listecki lead the group in prayer for those who were killed and injured, and in prayers of blessing to purify the area where the evil acts had taken place,” the archdiocese wrote.

Before the procession, Pope Francis extended his condolences to The Most Rev. Listecki.

CBS 58 reported that The Holy Father sent his assurance of spiritual closeness those affected by the pre-Thanksgiving tragedy.

The Milwaukee outlet published a statement from the Holy See which reads, “To the Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki Archbishop of Milwaukee, the Holy Father asks you kindly to convey the assurance of his spiritual closeness to all affected by the tragic incident that recently took place in Waukesha. He commends the souls of those who died to almighty God's loving mercy and implores the divine gifts of healing and consolation upon the injured and bereaved. He joins you in asking the Lord to bestow upon everyone the spiritual strength which triumphs over violence and overcomes evil with good (cf. Rom 12:21).”

Authorities arrested and questioned Darrell Brooks for allegedly plowing a red SUV into the parade.

According to Fox News, the 39-year-old Brooks has a lengthy criminal history, which includes sex offender registration in Nevada.
