The Parish of St. Monica in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee announced on social media that it has installed a new outdoor Stations of the Cross, giving parishioners an opportunity to pray and reflect on the passion and death of Jesus Christ.

“Finishing touches on the new, outdoor Stations of the Cross @stmonicamke Come visit and pray at your leisure,” Fr. Paul Hartmann, pastor of St. Monica Parish, posted on Twitter Nov. 9.

The Stations of the Cross, of which there are 14 images, provide Catholics the chance to meditate upon the stages of the Passion of Christ. The images at the stations show the progression of events from Jesus' condemnation by Pontius Pilate to his entombment, according to Brittanica. The stations depict: Jesus is condemned to death; Jesus bears his cross; Jesus falls for the first time; Jesus encounters his Mary; Simon of Cyrene helps bear Jesus’s cross; Veronica wipes the face of Jesus; Jesus falls a second time; women weep over Jesus; Jesus falls the third time; Jesus is stripped of his clothing; Jesus is nailed to the cross; Jesus dies on the cross; Jesus is taken down from the cross; and Jesus is placed in the tomb, according to Britannica.

The parish of St. Monica in Whitefish Bay was founded in 1923. The parish has more than 1,000 households, a church and a school, and is part of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

The parish's namesake saint, St. Monica, is the patron saint of wives and mothers, the parish states on its website. St. Monica is best known as the mother of St, Augustine, who converted to the faith because of his mother's efforts and prayers. St. Augustine is considered one of the Catholic faith's greatest teachers and philosophers, according to the parish.
