Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Green Bay, Wisconsin shared a note from Deacon Jeff Prickette.
“On this last Sunday of our liturgical year, we hear the ‘Judgement of the Nations,’ the story of all stories from Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew 25:31-46. Within these 15 verses, Jesus tells his followers in no uncertain terms how we will be judged at the end of our lives,” Deacon Jeff wrote. “For those who can’t recognize Jesus, he gives us very clear examples: I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, in prison and you visited me, naked and you clothed me.”
While we can interpret this verse in a myriad ways, we can not deny the fact that we are called to help those in need. While we are all called to a different life of service, we all must do our part to help further the kingdom of God on Earth.
“Here at Prince of Peace, there are many times I’m not sure if I’m helping or making a difference. However, asking Jesus every day to be my guide and helper goes a long way in choosing the correct way to serve. It’s when I get in His way that there are problems,” Deacon Jeff wrote.
Even though serving the underserved and impoverished can be a challenge, it is good for us to put ourselves in these situations. Our Lord, God of all that is, came and lived with those who were poor and disheveled. We must follow in his footsteps and seek out those who need help.
“Jesus asks you to serve those in most need. But realize that when you do, it’s His face you are seeing, His smell you are smelling and His need you are filling,” Deacon Jeff wrote.
Let us be spurred on by a love of Our Lord.
