Each year, the last readings ask us to reflect on our lives, according to the bulletin of Four Parishes One Faith Catholic Churches.
"Even the season of autumn causes us to pause," the churches wrote in the bulletin. "What once was covered in bright rainbow colors are now just sticks. Greenery in the ditches turns different shades of browns. Things just look dead. The cold creeps into our bones, and we move a little slower. Aches and pains that were not there just a month ago now make themselves known with no mercy. Is it time? Time to slow down. Time to pray a little more. Time to light a fire, whether it be in the fireplace or a single candle, the warmth and glow warm our hearts. "
Humans are much like seasons as they pass through. Each year, we get closer to our death, or our winter.
"The gospels all try to prepare us for that moment," the churches wrote in the bulletin. "We can take the time to reflect upon our death or we can ignore it. Is it time? Time to reconcile with loved ones we have been separated from for years. Time to get to confession. Time to plan our funeral. Time marches on and will not wait for us. We need to move in step with time, knowing we are not of this world but a world where there is no time. Rather, we will be with God, a loving God, a merciful God, if we take the time to be with Him now. Is it time?"
