Faith is not something that should be a bookend to life or a weekly habit reserved only for Sundays, it should be a part of every moment in the lives of the faithful.
Pastor Patrick O’Loughlin of St. Mary by the Lake Catholic Church in Racine, Wisconsin, recently wrote to parishioners regarding living the liturgy in everyday life.
“Do you consider yourself spiritually mature and awake?” O’Loughlin wrote. “We can become a little presumptuous in the Christian life and even put a little too much stock in God’s mercy.”
While God's mercy is unearned, Christians should still be living lives that show appreciation for and acceptance of that mercy, not complacency within its promise, O’Loughlin wrote.
“If we haven’t learned how to be attentive, recognize and long for the holy of holies in this life, what makes us think we are going to recognize and desire it in the next?” O’Loughlin wrote. “Pray for the wisdom to act prudently.”
