An event with roots in Milwaukee promoting peace in the midst of a summer of civil unrest and turmoil will be observed in Green Bay next month. 

St. Francis Xavier Cathedral will serve as host for a Eucharistic procession and rosary at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 that is open to the public. The event is part of the nationwide movement Unite Our Nation, a prayerful, family event that is not political.

The event, which began under the name Unite Wisconsin, is designed to bring peace to the city of Green Bay while promoting healing in the nation through the power of prayer. Local organizers are developing a prayer march that will be led by clergy. There will be a patriotic rosary for all 50 states as part of the itinerary. It is seen an opportunity for outreach in the community.

“We want to bring our Lord and the Blessed Mother out of the church and into the streets during these challenging times,” said Tom Fassbender, an event organizer, in a press release.

Helping provide credence to that stated goal will be Bishop David Ricken of the Green Bay Diocese, who will be part of the event while also offering encouragement.

Unite Our Nation was formed to bring peace and prayer to communities throughout the nation and to help initiate healing. It believes in the power of the Eucharist and the serenity of the rosary. In unison with bishops and priests it is working to help the faithful plan processions throughout the nation in response to the riots that has shaken many cities as a balm to the violence and fear.
