St. Anthony Abbot Parish issued the following announcement on Sept. 20

“so high are my ways above your ways / and my thoughts above your thoughts.”

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians 1:20c24, 27a “Only, conduct yourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ.” A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 20:116a “The landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ . . .The first shall be last and the last shall be first. “

The above excerpts are the ones that reached out to me this week. In the first reading we are told that God’s thoughts are way above our thoughts, perhaps even out of our grasp. No wonder we can’t understand this gospel using our human egodriven mind. We might even sympathize with those who worked all day! What if we changed our focus and instead reflect on all the invitations people received from the landowner for work. Perhaps God is saying that we should always be ready to accept the invitation to do Jesus’ work. Conduct ourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ. We need not worry about our fair pay as God is always generous. God is so generous with his love and forgiveness. Praise God!
