Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish recently issued the following announcement.
A reading from the Book of Sirach, 27:30-28:7 “Forgive your neighbor’s injustice; then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.” Letter of St. Paul to the Romans 14:7-9 “whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”
Gospel according to Matthew 18:21-35 “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. . .So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives your brother from the heart” .
Today we hear forgive, forgive, and forgive. Are we hearing another commandment to live by: “Forgive your neighbor as you forgive yourself?” Is it easier to forgive yourself or someone else? Can we do both? If it seems impossible, we are again called to pray and ask for that forgiveness that will nourish love of your neighbor and yourself. As we journey this difficult road I think knowing this one certainty in these uncertain times will bring peace to our hearts---that certainty is “the Lord is with us” in death and in life!
