Trinity Woods, a new intergenerational housing project at Mount Mary University, is one step closer to becoming a reality after the financial closing of the project was announced recently.

The $45 million collaboration between the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Mount Mary University and Milwaukee Catholic Home will house seniors, undergraduate mothers and their children, and the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for Sept. 3 and a tentative opening date is in fall of 2021.

The name of the project, Trinity Woods, has special significance: Trinity represents the Catholic/Christian faith and the partnership of the three above-mentioned organizations. Woods represents wisdom, growth and the wooded grounds where the facility will be built.

The colors of the development's logo also have meaning: The blue of trinity honors the three organizations and represents openness and sky. The green woods recognizes the setting of the development.

“The name and logo for Trinity Woods are the perfect embodiment of the good work that has been happening to make this innovative housing development a reality,” Dave Fulcher, CEO of Milwaukee Catholic Home, said in a release issued on the Mount Mary University website. “We are beyond pleased to participate in this first-of-its-kind venture in Milwaukee, which offers so much promise for residents and the greater community.”

Sisters and seniors will enjoy a dynamic intergenerational living environment while single mothers have access to strong community and support. The final development will hold 52 private residences for the School Sisters of Notre Dame, 24 dormitory units for single mothers and their small children, and 90 market-rate independent living units for seniors over the age of 62. Buildings will be connected by a Town Center, a space that allows community members to meet for conversation, prayer, learning and dining.
