St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Madison shared their gospel meditation from the church's Aug.16 bulletin, which centered on understanding the scriptures.
The meditation comments that as humans, we crave understanding and wholeness. We are not content to live in a broken system or a broken world. At the same time, we are aware of our brokenness and our need for help and our human limitations.
“If I am feeling intense anger, I can identify the emotion and take necessary steps to uncover its cause,” the meditation said. “Being persistent often brings greater and quicker results. But will pursuing and even achieving our physical and emotional healings really be enough?”
There are certainly limitations that we all face, but we must not be content to rest in less than what God promises us.
We desire deeply more than simple physical and emotional comfort. The depth of our desires lie in our souls and we yearn for reconciliation and wholeness in our souls.
“Inner strength, conviction, focus, grounding, love, hope, faith, courage, determination, peace and connectedness are all words that center us on eternity," the meditation stated. "They direct us to a presence we discover in our core, which is none other than the presence of God.”
While our existence as broken individuals may make it hard for us in this life, we can always work on our spiritual and emotional state, leaning on the Scriptures and the truth of God’s word and promises to us. It may mean a long and at times tiresome journey to healing and reconciliation, but it is possible with God’s help.
“If we have done our inner soul work, we have worked toward and acquired what and who we ultimately need and desire,” the meditation said.
Despite our human limitations, we can always strive for a more holy life, healed through God’s grace.
