The Rev. Thomas Coyle of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish in Jefferson stated in his weekly Gospel Meditation that all things good and evil coexist, but we must remember that good will triumph.

"Our faith tells us that while God allows the wheat and the weeds to coexist, the wheat will always triumph," Coyle wrote in the weekly church bulletin. "As long as we can cultivate even a little faith and a small measure of desire for God, He can produce abundant blessings and good things."

Sometimes the weeds in our lives may triumph, he said, but this does not mean faith should be lost. It can still be grown as long as a person doesn't allow the weeds to reign in their life.

To be sure that good triumphs, a person needs to have faith, goodness, light and love.

"With even this small portion, God can produce abundant growth," Coyle wrote.

But giving into the evil, or the weeds, can be an easy thing to do.

"While God will deal with all things in due time, we are responsible for keeping things in check in the short term," Coyle said. "It is our task to keep our eyes fixed on God’s presence and mercy. . . . Weeds have power. We have to realize this. While they can appear attractive and healthy, they can quickly choke us off from God’s presence. Our task is one of maintenance and cultivating a desire for God. Even the smallest kernel of faith can grow into something wonderful."
