Four second graders from Good Shepherd Parish in Westfield will receive First Holy Communion in separate ceremonies, the Rev. Savio Verasani announced in the July 12 weekly bulletin.

“Due to social-distancing requirements, we scheduled to celebrate individually special First Holy Communion Masses for four Sundays,” Verasani wrote. “This enables families to come and celebrate together without overcrowding the church.”

Verasani called on his parishioners to reflect on “the great gift that we receive in Holy Communion,” at a time when many have not been able to receive it over the past few months during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Hopefully, it has made us more aware of the great grace it is to be able to receive Our Lord in the Eucharist,” he wrote. “May we each make the effort to prayerfully participate in Mass and reverently receive Our Lord each and every time we come forward.”
