Children receiving their First Communion this year in the Holy Cross Parish family in Green Bay, Wisconsin, will celebrate the sacrament individually.

Abbot Gary Neville and Faith Formation Director Tina Riegnier wanted to make sure the students were able to receive the sacrament as soon as possible, the church bulletin reported. They decided to go forward with an "individual" receiving of the sacrament. During July and August, each family will have the opportunity to sign up for a weekend mass and time for their child to receive Holy Communion for the first time.

The celebration was supposed to take place as a group in April. But COVID-19 and efforts made to slow the spread of the virus caused it to be postponed indefinitely.

Three children have participated in the individual receiving of the sacrament already, the bulletin reported. The church sent out their congratulations to Owen Bertram, Calla Rasmussen and Kenzy Schleis.
