The St. Francis Xavier Parish has resumed in-person Mass services, keeping in accordance with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's "Catholic Comeback" guide to reopening parishes and ministries.

Robyn Walvoord, business manager for the St. Francis Xavier Parish, the St. John the Baptist Church in Paris, the St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Dover and the St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Union Grove, said that the parish is complying with the 25% capacity-limit guideline outlined in phase one of the reopening plan.

"We haven't turned anyone away," Walvoord told the Wisconsin Catholic Tribune. "Pews are taped off to limit the seating and maintain social distancing."

Phase one recommendations also state that communion be taken by hand rather than placed on the tongue. While people are returning to the church, Walvoord said that there hasn't been a crowd large enough to reach 25% capacity yet, and that no churchgoers have had to be turned away.

The amount of congregations has been reduced as well, as there is only one weekend Mass and one weekday mass each week. According to the St. Francis Xavier Parish site, Mass is held at 8 a.m. on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Walvoord said that the church is being cleaned after each Mass. Other recommendations outlined by the phase one portion of the Catholic Comeback include no choirs, minimization of communal singing, youth confirmations allowed at 25% capacity and no funeral wakes.

Updates for all local Catholic parishes can be found on the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's siteThe Wisconsin Department of Health Services recommends that churchgoers stay home if they're experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
