Church of the Resurrection issued the following announcement on July 12
Readings for the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time (July 19)
(Wisdom 12:13,16-19; Romans 8:26-27; Matthew 13:24-43)
One of the temptations of faithful people through the ages is to allow our ideas of discipleship to harden around a specific image, and to judge those who do not express their beliefs in the same way. Judging (and dismissing) is a constant temptation. In today’s gospel reading, Jesus speaks against such exclusivity, teaching that we should treat each other with patience and forbearance. [We will discover elsewhere that Jesus is VERY BIG that we scrutinize our own actions though.] The Kingdom of God is sown in hidden ways, and only God will judge at the end. The discerning Christian waits on his judgment. What steps can you take to treat your fellow Christians with more patience and forbearance?
