The Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Maplewood will continue to hold in-person Sunday Mass on a rotational basis, according to the church website.
On July 12, parishioners with last names starting with Kolstad to Z can take part in the service. On the following Sunday, last names starting with A to Kohlbeck will be allowed to participate in church services.
"We have split our parishioner list in half with half attending every other weekend,’’ church secretary and bookkeeper Missy Massart told the Wisconsin Catholic Tribune. "We also are recommending they wear masks and sanitize their hands (both provided). The pews are roped off to keep social-distancing standards, and the church is being sanitized after each mass.’’
The church also announced a number of other changes.
Holy water fonts will be empty and hymnals also will be removed. And the church urged parishioners not to congregate before or after the service.
The Dioscese of Green Bay also released a series of guidelines for a return to Mass.
Mass remains at phase 2 of the Wisconsin reopening. Church officials urged those feeling sick and showing symptoms like a cough or fever to stay home. Parishioners who are healthy are encouraged to return.
"The Diocese of Green Bay remains fully committed to the restoration of public Mass for all the faithful,’’ church guidelines said. "As we continue to monitor closely the recommendations and protocol issued by the Bishop, in consultation with the Presbyteral Council, Regional Vicars and health care professionals, we are working toward a graduated process for the safe and healthy restoration of public Mass.’’
The church is located at 7491 county Road H, Sturgeon Bay, and the phone number is 920-856-6440.
