Would an accuser assume that you don't know Jesus Christ at all, Milwaukee's Blessed Sacrament Congregation asks.
Imagine you were accused of blasphemy and faced execution for believing in Jesus. How would you answer, “Are you a Christian, a follower of the one named Jesus Christ?,” Tracy Earl Welliver asked in the church's June 19 bulletin.
“Your answer may very well dictate what happens to you next,” Welliver told the church in its bulletin. “It is probably easier to answer this question when the scenario is make-believe.”
Most people want to believe that they'd say yes, but people facing extreme stress often panic, and strange things happen, Welliver said. He said that many early Christians who responded affirmatively to that question are now considered martyrs and saints.
In today’s world, the more interesting question would be, “Would an accuser even think of asking you such a question? Would you have cultivated, grown, and shared your faith enough that anyone would even consider you worthy of asking the question? They might assume you don’t know Jesus Christ at all," Welliver told the church in its bulletin.
Although Welliver does not like conflict, he told the church in its bulleting that he would prefer that someone, “ask the first question posed than assume there is no reason to confront me in the first place.”
